Open Letter to Airports from ISS CEO
September 2001

Dear Airport Administrator:

In light of recent events, we know that new security measures are taking effect at airports across the country and that this may pose special communication challenges to you and your customers. It is likely that, more than ever, travelers will need assistance understanding just what to do, when they reach the airport.

An AM radio system can be a very effective way for airport administrators to communicate with people in cars, approaching their facilities. Strategically placed signs at airport entryways encourage travelers to tune to a special AM frequency for new safety regulations they need to be aware of, as well as general parking, directions and terminal information.

Where large coverage is desired, ISS will provide airports "Classic" Travelers Information Stations or ALERT AM Emergency Advisory Systems with a 3-5-mile range at 20% off normal cost; no charge for frequency-searching and FCC-licensing services for these stations. (Temporary licenses can be granted by the FCC in a matter of days.)

Please see the Information Station and ALERT AM System web pages, if you would like to know more about these information radio technologies. At those links, you will find images and information to help you plan and decide.

A few of the larger airports that already have Travelers Information Stations include . . .

  • Hartsfield-Atlanta International.
  • O'Hare & Midway Parking Facilities.
  • Detroit Metro.
  • San Francisco International.
  • Kansas City International.
  • Houston Airports (both IAH and Hobby).
  • Nashville Aviation Authority.
  • San Diego International.
  • Fort Lauderdale International.

Sincerely,

William W. Baker
President and Chief Executive Officer
